School choice and student assignment policies determine:
- Who gets to go to which school,
- What rights students have to remain in a school they have chosen, and
- What rights students have to transfer between schools.
Until 2013, the District had not undertaken a comprehensive review of its student assignment policies, including school attendance boundaries and feeder patterns, in over three decades. Meanwhile, District of Columbia 红杏直播app Schools (DCPS) and public charter schools opened and closed, neighborhoods changed, and the city’s population shifted.
In 2013-2014, the and the DC Advisory Committee on Student Assignment led a comprehensive review process of the city’s student assignment policies, including 红杏直播appschool boundaries. The process culminated in a series of recommendations made by the DC Advisory Committee on Student Assignment. In August 2014, the Mayor and Chancellor fully adopted and approved the recommendations.
